The name Tatawai carries personal meaning.
Tatawai was once a small lake on the lower Taieri Plains — part of a wetlands system that connected to Lake Waipori, Lake Waihola and eventually the sea. Over time the landscape changed, as many landscapes do, and the lake became farmland. Decades later, that land became home to three generations of my family. It is where I grew up - on what was once Lake Tatawai.
That history has shaped how I think about care and stewardship.
Skin, like land, has a natural barrier designed to protect and sustain. When we overwhelm it or treat it as something to be constantly corrected, we can disrupt its balance. I believe skincare should support and respect that barrier rather than work against it.
Tatawai was founded to create formulations grounded in wisdom and integrity. Each decision has been made thoughtfully, with a focus on long-term care rather than short-term trends.
My hope is that these products offer something steady and considered — skincare that supports delicate skin with transparency, restraint, and purpose.
